"Our rapist is now serving 120 years in prison"

"Thank you for "telling." I have read just about every book there is on the subject of rape, and your's is one that truly addresses the aftermath. I was raped four years ago, and made a vow immediately afterward, to not keep silent. Two days after I was raped, I went to work and told my story. My entire family--parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts--gathered in a room, and I told them my story. I may have told my story in a robotic fashion, but somehow I knew the "telling" would promote healing.

My rape was a highly-publicized case since my attacker struck in three counties, victimizing thirteen women in Washington state. I have met ten of the thirteen women, and five of us remain close friends. We share the need to "tell," and have appeared on local and national television. Our rapist is now serving 120 years in prison, without the case ever going to trial. Had we not told our stories, I am sure he'd still be creating more victims today."

I know I will never be completely free of rape, but I will continue to "tell" my story.

Thank you for "telling" your story.
